Revival of Pakistan Film Indstry
Pakistan's Film Industry revival started after the release of the film "Khuda K Liye" by Shoaib Mansoor in 2007. A lot has to be changed. Picture quality and scriptwriting and direction. Before that, we were only making B grade films with very unrealistic acting. Where the world was making films using new tools and techniques, Lollywood was still living in the '80s until movies like "Khuda K Liye" and "BOL" stepped in and changed everything. So whenever talking about the revival and steps of reforming the Pakistani cinema it is not possible not to mention those films. So our revival began from pretty serious topics and then our first action movie "War" was made that was also a hit and Pakistan's first Blockbuster movie.
Talking about the movies in 2019, a lot changed. Mahira Khan and Mehwish Hayaat being the spotlight girls of our industry, It does not matter whether the movie is good or not but they are always pulling the crowd. Hamza Ali Abbasi after getting his fame from the TV drama Pyare Afzal started pulling a massive crowd as well and gain a huge fan following not only in drama and film industry but in politics also. He will not be making any more films now as he recently announced that he only want to spread the message of Allah and made this the only and final mission of his life. But it is not always about the actors. The script and direction are of much importance because when it comes to the media and film industry, people fall in love with the character and not the person. That is my point of view. So character building is very important in any story otherwise people will not visit the cinema next time you will make a movie with those stars.
The movie Parwaaz hai Junoon was a hit because it was about Pakistan AirForce. Our people just love our Pak Army so they will always be rushing to the cinema to see any movie if it is about army although the cinematography of the movie was not so great as we are still in our initial stages and do not have that much of high-quality equipment so it is not fair to blame but I hope to see improvements in the future.
The film Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, the title says it all. The title is so catchy that you can not resist to watch it. It had a budget of RS 85 million and it made RS 494.4 million in Box office while its 2nd part made RS 700 million with a budget of RS 110 million and why would not it, After it was featuring the forever young Humayun Saeed!
But as the time is progressing we are making more movies with item numbers in it that I do not think is that much necessary and films without item numbers will be of much more success. Just look at Hollywood, they are making so much progress without item numbers. All you need is a good story that should not be far from what people visualize in their heads. Because the more you make movies close to the imagination of the people, the more they are likely to succeed and hit the milestone.
